Barnes & Noble Nook HD

A budget Android-based tablet that's out to sink the Amazon Kindle Fire HD.

Lightweight, with good ergonomics ; Good value ; Great screen

Limited app selection, expensive apps ; No movie rental in UK yet ; Patchy performance ; Poor app selection, expensive apps

. And while not everyone will appreciate the ebook reader-like design of the Nook HD, it's roughly on-par with the Google Nexus 7 in build quality and aesthetics.

Nook HD review: a high-def tablet with the heart of a reader

Barnes & Noble knows where it stands in the tablet race. Sure, the company has been plugging away at the space since the day the Nook Color made its

Low price ; Nice, distinct hardware ; Great screen

Bland UI ; No access to Google Play ; Software not fully baked at time of review

The Nook HD is a nice piece of hardware at a great price that's hampered somewhat by skinned Android.

Barnes & Noble Nook HD+

Barnes & Noble's Nook HD+ is an impressive $269 (16GB, direct) tablet. But a great 9-inch tablet experience is as much about content as it is about hardware, and that's where the Nook HD+ falls short. The Nook has definite advantages over the Kindle...

Inexpensive. High-resolution screen. Quality build. Supports multiple users. Great children's books and magazines

Very limited media store, media-format support, and app selection. Slow Wi-Fi

The Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ is a good choice for book lovers, but its smaller 7-inch sibling is a better bet. We want a lot more from a 9-inch tablet.

Barnes & Noble Nook HD review

Barnes & Noble's Nook tablets may not have the brand cachet of the iPad or the Kindle Fire, but the bookseller's done an impressive job of turning itself into a consumer electronics company. While...

Gorgeous display ; Reading-friendly design ; Lots of smart software features

Constant, pervasive performance issues ; Terrible speakers ; App selection feels unnecessarily curated

A beautiful mess

Barnes & Noble Nook HD Review

The popular bookseller Barnes & Noble surely have a great pair of tablets on their hands, but they are rarely mentioned while talking about budget friendly tablets. With a strong focus on e-readers and digital content the Nook HD puts up a great fight...

In the end Barnes & Noble invested a lot into both their hardware and software, and it shows. The screen is vibrant and crisp, performance is snappy and family friendly, and their unique industrial design stands out from the competition while remaining...

Barnes & Noble Nook HD review

The Nook HD is has its sights set clearly on the Fire HD and Barnes & Noble is quick to point out that you won't get bombarded by adverts on the lock screen and that there's a mains charger in the box. That's two of the Kindle's flaws dealt with then.

We can hardly find fault with the hardware, and at this price it's hard to find fault with anything. Since the Nook was set free from the confines of the Barnes & Noble content store it has been an amazing deal. An easy-to-use and well-built tablet at...

Barnes & Noble Nook HD video review

It has a 7in screen and weighs about the same as an iPad mini. It's comfortable to hold in one hand, and is primarily designed to be used upright.

Barnes & Noble NOOK HD Review

With its rivals getting the head start, Barnes & Noble made sure to deliver some standout points with its latest 7-inch tablet offering in the NOOK HD. Not only does it follow the recipe in making it a convincing offering on paper, such as having a...

Sharpest display on a 7-inch tablet is great for reading

App selection is limited ; No cameras

Here’s the deal folks. If reading is more of your forte than anything else, there’s no question that the NOOK HD is the ideal tablet for you, especially when it has a healthy and robust ecosystem in that particular category. And with that snazzy...

Barnes & Noble Nook HD

The £159 Barnes & Noble Nook HD is yet another entrant in the most savage of gadget deathmatches right now: the seven inch tablet fight for your money. Much like the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 by Asus, it's packing a seven inch screen and...

It’s tough to recommend the Barnes & Noble Nook HD over the Nexus 7 for gadget loving adults. Sure, it’s far superior to the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, but as long as manufacturers insist on modifying out of date versions of Android, they’re simply not...

If you're a fan of apps, widgets, streaming content, or games, this is a tablet to skip.

Fair hardware, but a cripplingly bad user experience
