Sony VRD-MC5

Ease-of-use, supports a range of multimedia ; including camcorders, VHS tapes and digital photos, portable design

Some camcorder recording options only work with Sony products

If you need a fast way to make DVDs without a computer, the VRD-MC5 is a relatively cheap and user-friendly option. Unfortunately, its unashamed bias towards Sony-branded camcorders slightly lessens its charms.

Sony DVDirect MC5

Video-transfer device is a quick, convenient way to get content onto DVD without firing up a PC.

Supports HD video, very easy to use

Can't connect to a PC

Though the MC5 is easy to use, we had to search for a format function hidden in the setup menu to reuse Nero-burned +RW and -RW media. The MC5 does nothing you can't do with a PC and a DVD burner, but for videographers on the go, it's both quicker and...

Sony DVDirect VRD-MC5

The DVDirect VRD-MC5 is the easiest way to transfer old VHS tapes, camcorder footage, and photos from your digital camera directly onto a DVD, without a PC.

LCD screen for previews. Easy to transfer photos and videos, including VHS, to a DVD. Cheaper than previous models. Memory card slots. Adds title menus, slide show, and music functions to the selection menu

Doesn't connect to a PC and printer anymore. Cables not included. No software bundle

Dvdirect MC5

The $230 MC5 is the latest in Sony's DVDirect series of stand-alone video transfer devices, and for quick, easy burning of photos and video to DVD without using a PC, you can't beat it. The big news is that the MC5 is the first DVDirect model to...

Sony DVDirect VRD-MC5 review

Is the medium really the message? First, I had a VHS camcorder, then an S-VHS camcorder and in the early nineties I did a lot of recording on the Hi-8 format. After that I went digital with DV tapes. All of those were messages, right? Messages from the...
